Dogs have been humanity’s stalwart companions for tens of thousands of years. Due to our influence, not all dogs are genetically healthy. Human-guided breeding has created hundreds of different breeds of dogs based on specific physical characteristics. Sometimes, the characteristics of these dogs or the inbreeding required to make them can pose a risk to their health.

Scientists, animal welfare advocates, as well as some breeders, have been trying for years to raise awareness about the problems faced by these dogs. And while there are many in these communities who believe that it’s still possible to steer breeding practices in a positive direction, at least some countries have recently taken action to heavily regulate or effectively ban the breeding of certain dogs. Some organizations have also launchedPublic outreach is also done to discourage the selling and buying of certain breeds.

All dogs are good and worthy to be part of a family, of course. These breeds are not recommended for those who don’t want their dog to live in their home. More healthy than others.
