With Apple’s five MacBook models, choosing a new laptop as back-to-school season approaches can be a little difficult. For instance, Apple offers both the 2019 and 2020 models of the MacBook Air. Afterward, you can pick from three different MacBook Pro models.

Your budget and the uses you have for your laptop will have an impact on your choice. Here are the key facts about each MacBook model as well as suggestions on how to pick the best one for you.

The 2020 MacBook Air, which costs $999, is the least expensive MacBook that Apple offers, but it’s still a great computer. Despite having an M1 chip and being capable of handling the majority of tasks, it performs more slowly when it comes to tasks like video editing.
The 2020 MacBook Air has an 18-hour battery life, much like the 2022 model.
The upgrade from this year, which we’ll talk about next, deprives you of some features. But if you “just need a computer,” use this instead.

This is the MacBook that most people should choose.
With a starting price of $1,199, Apple’s most recent MacBook Air is newly redesigned, slimmer than previous models, and equipped with the most recent M2 CPU.
The most recent MacBook Air supports MagSafe charging. That one is the tiniest magnetic charging wire that slids in and out of the side. As a result, if you trip over the cord, the complete MacBook won’t tumble off your desk. The laptop has two Thunderbolt USB C ports, one of which can be utilised for charging. Apple’s 67-watt charger costs $59, and it can be quickly charged up to 50% in 30 minutes.

This MacBook is the lightest at barely 2.7 pounds. The 2020 Air weighs 2.8 pounds. The screen size is a touch larger at 13.6 inches.
The webcam and sound quality has also been upgraded. Movies and music sound more immersive thanks to the M2 MacBook Air’s total of four speakers. The former 720p webcam has been replaced by a full 1080p HD version.
For an additional $200, the most recent MacBook Air offers faster charging, a better webcam, better speakers, and a newer design. This model’s processing speed is also more than sufficient for the average user.

MacBook Pro 13-inch with M2, $1,299

The new MacBook Pro is riddled with contradictions. It is an improvement over the MacBook Air. Both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models have the newest M2 CPU, which is less powerful than the earlier M1 Pro or M1 Max processors.

Only the MacBook 2022 edition comes with the Touch Bar, a thin strip that runs above the keyboard and can be used to swipe through photographs, skip or pause/play audio, and more. It uses the M2 CPU and offers a 20-hour battery life. The Pro is superior to the MacBook Air in terms of speakers and display quality.

Similar to the 2022 MacBook Air, it supports MagSafe charging, but it also incorporates Active Cooling, which is an enhancement over the Air’s two fans. This enables it to perform challenging video editing jobs, for example, which would otherwise be impossible.
The Pro features a slightly smaller (13.3 inch) screen and weights a bit more than the normal model (3 pounds). The processing and graphic performance on the 2022 MacBook Pro are frequently considerably different if you’re utilising a demanding feature like video editing or photo editing.

14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max, $1,999

If you want a MacBook with the highest power imaginable, choose one of these.
Apple revealed last year’s $1,999 14-inch and $2,499 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which reintroduced features like an SD card reader and a full HDMI connector.

Because of their rapid refresh rates, webpages appear to scroll effortlessly on them, and they feature the greatest screens a MacBook has to offer. Unlike the MacBook Air variants, they support up to two extra monitors as opposed to only one. The M1 Pro or M1 Max chips, which are more potent than the M2 chip in Apple’s other laptops, make them particularly pertinent – at least until we learn about Apple’s M2 Pro or Max ambitions, that is.

So if you frequently edit videos or just like high-end screens and lots of ports, they are for you. Only be ready to spend more money.
