The world’s most prestigious competitors for cosmic photos has revealed its shortlist—and it’s full of surprise.

From the Moon and eclipses to comets and the northern lights, the shortlisted photos for this 12 months’s Astronomy Photographer of the Yr have been plucked from over 3,000 entries from beginner {and professional} photographers in 67 nations.

Organized by London’s Royal Observatory Greenwich and sponsored by Liberty Specialty Markets and in affiliation with BBC Sky at Evening Journal, this 14th annual competitors will announce its winners on September 15, 2022.
