Mumbai:

Newly-appointed Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today said that the  Shiv Sena MLAs who broke off from the Thackeray camp had tried to persuade former Chief Minister and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray “three to four times” to go with “natural ally” BJP. Many Sena legislators were unhappy with the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition and tried unsuccessfully to talk to Mr Thackeray several times before starting an all-out rebellion.

He is currently in Delhi on a two-day trip with his Deputy Devendra Faddnavis, to discuss cabinet expansion and meet with the central BJP leadership.

Speaking to the media in the national capital, he reiterated that the MLAs backing him are the real Shiv Sena. He stated, “We have the numbers” and were recognized by the assembly speaker.

He stated that the members of the Shiv Sena have faith in the courts and are not disputing who the party symbol will be used. “We are Shiv Sena, and we haven’t done any illegal thing. He added that we have been recognized as the Legislative Party.

Shinde refuted the allegations that his ally BJP could go to any length to stay in power. He defended the party with electoral numbers. “I have 50 MPLAs, BJP only has 115.” “People expected that the Chief minister would be from BJP,” he stated. “Can people say the same about the BJP?” They can’t. He said that a small worker like him had the chance to become the Chief Minister.”

He also claimed Uddhav Thackeray ignored Bal Thackeray’s Hindutva while BJP supported it.

Devendra Fadnavis (Deputy Chief Minister) expressed support for the Chief Minster and pledged his support to the success of the new government.

“My party made me Chief Minister before, and now, as per the party’s need, we have complied with the party’s decision. Eknath Shindu is our leader, and CM. We will work under his leadership. He stated that injustice was removed and that natural alliance was restored.

It has nothing to do w/ having a big heart. I do my best to follow the orders of our leaders. I support Mr Shinde. He said that we would work very well under his guidance.” Shinde thanked Mr Fadnavis earlier for his big heart and giving him the top position even though the BJP had the most MLAs.

“Shiv Sena belongs to Balasaheb Thackeray, and we are in alliance [with Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena],” Mr Fadnavis said.

Eknath Shinde took oath as Chief Minister and Mr Fadnavis as Deputy Chief Minister of the new government on June 30 after Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray resigned following a revolt in his party.

Mr Shinde and Mr Fadnavis have already met BJP President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and President Ram Nath Kovind. They are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the newfound allies move towards constituting their council of ministers.
