Volvo Cars announces plans to develop fully electric models under the Polestar brand
Polestar, a Swedish manufacturer of electric vehicles, announced on Tuesday that a well-liked electric roadster it previewed earlier this year will actually enter production. The new model, however, won’t be available to prospective purchasers for more than three years.

The Polestar 6 will go into production in 2026, replacing Polestar’s O2 roadster concept, which was unveiled for the first time in Los Angeles in March.

According to CEO Thomas Ingenlath, “We decided to put this magnificent roadster into production because to the enormous consumer and press reaction, and I am very happy to make it a reality.”

The car will have an electric architecture with an 800-volt rating for quick recharge and a retractable hardtop cover. Polestar claimed that a dual-motor system with up to 884 horsepower would propel the edgy roadster from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Before the roadster goes into production, Polestar still has a to-do list. By the end of 2025, the business intends to introduce three new vehicles, designated Polestar 3, 4, and 5, including an SUV, a coupe-like crossover, and a flagship luxury sedan. This fall, a Volvo plant in the United States will begin producing the first of those, the Polestar 3 SUV.

According to the manufacturer, the new roadster will share some critical technologies with the Polestar 5 car, including its 800-volt architecture.

Polestar, a joint venture between Volvo Cars and the Chinese carmaker Geely, went public in June after merging with a business that specialised in special purpose acquisitions. A significant step toward the firm’s long-term objective of selling 290,000 vehicles globally in 2025, the company said last month that it is on schedule to deliver 50,000 vehicles in 2022.

Polestar said that reservations for the roadster may be made starting on Tuesday. But be aware that the price has not yet been disclosed.
